Tanelorn news in briefs.... ooh err missus! - 04 Apr 2011

This game isn't just broken, its shattered.
March saw the end of the first leg of Privateer Press' shattered grounds league play out in the club. After five weeks of hard fought battle, the dust settled, leaving Nick Roberts and his Khador standing (a mere one point) clear of his foes. Commiserations to Chris Wood who was abandoned by the dice gods in the final round of the mini tournament that ended the league.

Congratulations also to Nigel Doherty to who managed to triumph in the tourney to claim the second league coin. Long will your names reverberate through the halls of glory (or something).

The second leg of the league is fast approaching so players should be steeling themselves.
Rules can be found on the PP website (cunningly linked in the forums for those who don't know what Google is). Two coins should again be up for grabs. I am not going to tell you how the second winner will be decided, but if you look through the commendations for this season you might get an idea.

The second league will be commencing Sunday 17th April.

Eight tries and you still messed it up?
Kudos to Barry and Rich as they try to keep it up... Warhammer Fantasy8th Ed has been largely ignored by us, but they have been seen with odd things like a 6x4" table, models in ranks and the rolling of more than 3d6 at any one time.

Taking on board some of the more reasoned criticims of the game, they are trying out some ETC ammendments to get the game into some semblance of balance and seem to be enjoying themselves. With the advent of Mantic and companies like Avatars of War looking into plastic prodcution, there is hope yet that large scale battles will rise again in our play group.

Do you want to know more? (Star Ship Troopers reference there folks).

Have a chat to Barry or Rich if you are interested.

Stirrings in the breach.
It seems some of the fouler denizens of the club have been peering through the breach and have emerged blinking into the realm of Malifaux.

This small scale skirmish game sees bands of warriors drawn from five diverse factions dueling over precious soul stones and their very sanity as they play out the dark whims of the malign forces behind the curtain of this forsaken land.

Several of us are picking the game up for the first time, looking to try something a little less competative than WM/H. If you fancy trying something new out and want to get involved, check out the forums for more info on getting involved.

Also, Wyrd miniatures, creators of the game, have just posted a PDF version of their rules manual, should you want to read up on the mechanics before diving in.

I'm Board of all this.
Kudos to Conrad for heading up the work on replacing the boards for the club. So far we are half way through new play surfaces, with a mix of traditional green, along with more exotic blue, brown and sand for the various games systems we largely ignore in favour of the mighty behemoth that is PP.

If anyone is free to lend a hand in finishing this please let us know as the boards are their for your benefit.

Also, many thanks to Matt R for once again providing us with a van to get stuff between shop and venue.

Longest way up, shortest way down.
Salute 2011 is on our doorstep again ,and once more the brave chaps from the committee have been organising a participation event to take to the show to promote the club.

Show attendees will be invited to take the Warmachine "massive clanger" (name liable to be changed to a more sensible one at Nigel's behest), challenge in which their chosen jack must battle across a desolate plain to climb a mighty Cryx drilling platform, where they will seek to disrupt the evil hand rubbing, beard stroking master plans of the Nightmare Empire.

We are still needing club members to attend and help out. In exchange for a free ticket/ride to show, you will need to help run the games, chat to people visiting the stand and generally try to cover up your bad hygiene and lack of personal skills as you draw new guys to our warm (dank, sweaty) bosom.

Please do get in touch with a committee member and get involved. Your club needs you.

So that's it for the first quarter of 2011.
In the second quarter you can look forward to more Shattered Grounds, the club hitting the road for the start of the tourney season, (look out Wales, the boys are coming in force this time, (or in Nick's case, possibly in Nigel...), and the usual grumpiness, cries of broken and "interesting" takes on balanced and fluffy lists that you expect.

See you next time.
