We who are about to play, salute you!
Tanelorn were present at Salute 2011 with our Warmachine participation table pitting one heavy jack from four factions (Cygnar, Khador, Mercenaries and Retribution) against four Helljacks protecting a nefarious Cryxian mine. It was first come, first served as the first heavy to reach the mine claimed victory. Great fun was had by all, including both young and old players, with the Cygnar and Khador 'jacks having a better run of it. Suffice to say Cryx lost every game! Better luck next time deadbeats!
English invasion across the Welsh border!
Early May saw a migration of English Hordes and Warmachine across the border to chance their luck at the Welsh Open held at Firestorm Games, Cardiff. Tanelorn club members were present in double figures and therefore it was no surprise that they gave good account of themselves, most notably Chris Wood who came third which understandably earned him Best Retribution player, Nick Roberts who won best painted army with his beautiful Khador and Jon Webb who won best painted miniature with his superbly painted Black Ogrun. Special mention must go to Richard Fitzmaurice who despite challenging other club members to the wooden spoon ended up coming fourth and Best Trollblood player to boot!
Most importantly, everybody agreed that they had a great time with prizes being given out left, right and centre! A big thank you to Martin and his team including all those nice Press Gangers as well as Rob at Firestorm Games. If you're looking for a competitive and friendly event to break into the rapidly expanding Hordes and Warmachine tournament scene then this is the one for you as it certainly looks set to become a permanant feature of the Tanelorn calendar.
If it ain't broke then don't fix it!
The hugely succesful Shattered Grounds League continued into its second season, the Thunderpeak Cliffs. Aaron Bayhon came from behind (Ooher missus! That one's for you Webby! ) to win this seaon and the accompanying coin whilst Chris Wood claimed the other coin for his excellent Retribution sniper team in the unit painting competition. Our buccaneering Press Ganger, Jon Webb, continues to tinker with this exciting format to make it even more player friendly so if you feel you want to get involved, drop him a line.
Masters Maestros!
Tanelorn was also well represented at the Masters with Aaron Boyhan, Andrew Galea and the irrepressible John Snape winning Best Faction in Cryx, Cygnar and Skorne respectively. Moreover Ed Smith claimed third place whilst Aaron claimed second after forfeiting first place in what can only be described as sportsmanship of the highest order. Aaron Skywalker, Conrad Kenobi has taught you well!
Grapes of Wrath!
With the release of Wrath as this newsletter goes to press excitement brews amongst Warmachine players with everybody hoping that their faction's new releases will either change their tabletop success or sustain it. As Battle Engines and the Unbound rules broaden the theatre of war will our beloved game be changed forever? Only time will tell. Whatever the case, now is the time to play like you've got a pair!
Beyond Immoren . . .
For those of you not into Privateer Press' flagship game then do not despair as the good people of Tanelorn can still cater to your tabletop wargaming needs! Our 40K community continues to grow in both quantity and quality. Look out for our 40K Summer Campiagn Day around mid-August where one day of gaming will decide the fate of an entire planet!
For those of you with a taste for the esoteric then Malifaux continues to be played at the club. Watch this space for a possible Campain Day in the latter half of the year for this excellent game as well as the resurrection of the Uncharted Seas Campaign.
Until next time . . .
Tanelorn :-)
